Family members have a role in the life of their loved one who struggles with substance use disorder. Yet far too often the family is the forgotten patient. When this happens, unstable, dysfunctional, and disconnected families do not promote healthy outcomes. Functional, informed, supportive, and supported families can directly impact their loved one seeking treatment, staying in treatment, and the long-term positive outcomes of recovery. Recovery begins where individuals live, work, play, and learn. This presentation will look at the positive impact the family can have in the treatment of America’s number one public health issue.
