About this event

  • 3 hours

Join Janna Barkin, author, educator, and coach, for an impactful presentation where we delve into the journey of families with transgender, nonbinary, or gender-diverse youth. Studies show that transgender and nonbinary youth have the best chance of thriving when they have at least one supportive adult in their lives, especially when this adult is their main caregiver. When one person embarks on the path of transition, each family member experiences their own unique adjustment process. Teachers, Administrators, and other school personnel could be the ones a family member turns to for support. This virtual workshop will prepare you to be that one.

This session offers practical insights and empathetic guidance for fostering open communication and understanding within the family. Discover tools to strengthen family bonds, promote empathy, and foster a supportive environment for every family member. This program will support educators, parents, grandparents, family, friends, colleagues, social workers, therapists, and community members.

Participants will:

  • Gain insights into the unique experiences of each family member as a family member undergoes gender transition
  • Explore the gap in understanding gender identity and language of gender among generations in families, and possible pathways to success
  • Discuss intersectional and cultural considerations that may impact the pathway toward acceptance, and possible pathways to success
  • Learn practical tools for fostering empathy and open dialogue in families of transgender individuals

    CANCELLATION POLICY

Life happens. We understand that there will be times when you cannot attend a workshop that you have registered and paid for. Registration may be transferred to a different person up to 7 days before a session. However refunds will not be given, and a session missed for any reason will not be refunded.

Below we have outlined our cancellation and refund policy, which we have in place to ensure the most accurate numbers when we secure well in advance locations, catering, and facilitators. Thank you for understanding.

We are unable to provide refunds for cancellations made 21 days or less prior to the first day of a workshop.
