Description

How can digital innovations address global health challenges for women and girls?

Over the past decade, digital technology has empowered women and girls with the tools they need to lead healthy and active lives. Of the 6.8 billion mobile phone users in the world, 1 billion are women in low and middle income countries. Mobile devices are used to track disease outbreaks, confirm diagnoses, measure and track the health of pregnancies, and remind family members to vaccinate their children or take their medication. Concurrently, improvements in broadband connectivity have enabled 600 million women and girls to have internet access in developing countries. According to a recent Accenture study, more than two-thirds of women in developing countries say that the internet helped to improve their educational opportunities and knowledge. Together, these digital channels have the potential to transform the way women and girls – as mothers, patients, health care workers, and community members – expand access to health information, services, and treatment.

Join us for a conversation with cross-sectoral advocates and contributors to explore the successes, challenges, and lessons learned from recent digital health initiatives targeting women and girls.
