Accelerate bridges the gap between The Happening community and Vancouver’s professional dance scene in a way that no other local dance studio does. Students as young as ten years old get to work with artists outside of our Happening Faculty and perform in a professional setting alongside other Vancouver artists. Over the last 6 years, our Senior Competitive Team have worked with OURO Collective, Jamie Robinson, Serge Bennathan, Company 605, and Kate Franklin.Accelerate immerses our Junior, Intermediate, and Senior Competitive students in a professional environment. The students in Accelerate perform for an audience full of choreographers, teachers, and working dance professionals and in turn, the Vancouver dance community gets to see our talented students first hand.I truly believe Accelerate has the power to positively impact our community. Performed by Kate Franklin and Choreographed by Avery Smith:“Here We Are” explores the artifice of identity. Together, Avery and Kate have created states of being that attempt to consolidate multiple versions of self. The attempt of presenting oneself in a neat package fails and dissolves in different ways. Cracks in formality and persona soften the performer and make space for multiple identities to exist.2﻿. Performed and Choreographed by Diego Romero &amp; Olivia Shaffer:49.3° N, 123.6° W is a contact improvisation duet between Olivia Shaffer and Diego Romero that utilizes principles of motion, weight, and our sense of time, to investigate the notion of transformation. That is, this piece spawns moments and then watches as they flow downstream. 3﻿. Performed and Choreographed by Emmalena FredrikssonEcdysis: In a not so distant future one of the cyborgs awakens. Moving through fragments of memories, old programming and rediscovering her own identity as a free agent, she questions if she is human, animal or machine?4﻿. Performed by The Happening&#x27;s Senior Showcase Team and Choreographed by Cristina Bucci/Ouro Dance CollectiveFor Accelerate OURO Collective’s Co-Artistic Director, Cristina Bucci has remounted an excerpt of Fire 06, which was originally created by the collective for Dancing on the Edge (2021). Through FIRE 06, OURO researched, discovered and shared the Firehall Arts Centre&#x27;s history and its surrounding neighbourhoods - the Downtown Eastside, Gastown, and Strathcona. Following the excerpt, Cristina will show a new work-in-progress entitled, Avanti. Avanti explores acknowledging past events, letting go of regrets, and reminds us to keep moving forward.
