Abusive Head Trauma and Child Death: A Symposium for Prosecutors

As prosecutors grapple with the repercussions of an increase in physical abuse and abusive head trauma, it is critical to provide training to improve the overall quality of the criminal investigation and prosecution of these complicated cases.

In response to these trends, Zero Abuse Project and the New York Prosecutors Training Institute will jointly host an in-person training for criminal prosecutors on June 11-13, 2024, dedicated solely to the topics of abusive head trauma and child death.

Topics will include the latest in abusive head trauma science and medical evidence, investigating deaths involving medically complex children, corroborating crime scenes in child death cases, and more!

Please note: Registration and attendance at the symposium are limited to criminal prosecutors employed by a state, local, federal, or tribal prosecutor's office. If you do not meet this criterion but believe you are eligible to attend based on your job responsibilities, kindly reach out to us at training@zeroabuseproject.org, providing your name, job title, agency, and job responsibilities. Failure to do so may result in the cancellation of your registration.

Costs & Travel

While there is no registration fee for the symposium, attendees are required to cover their own travel and meal costs.*

There is a hotel room block at the Renaissance Albany. Reservations can be made here. Please note that the cutoff date to book under our room block is May 27, 2024.

*After the conference concludes, NYPTI will cover lodging at the Renaissance Hotel for conference nights (Tuesday and Wednesday) for New York attendees (criminal prosecutors only) whose offices are located more than 50 miles away from Albany. All other travel expenses are the responsibility of the attendee. New York attendees are required to make their own hotel reservations using their personal credit card for payment; NYPTI will be directly billed by the hotel after the conference attendance is confirmed.

Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Credits

NYPTI will provide CLE credits ONLY to New York prosecutors.

Zero Abuse Project will apply for CLEs in additional states on a case-by-case basis. During registration, attendees can indicate their state and license number. Any CLE requests must be made at least 45 days in advance of the conference and are subject to the discretion of Zero Abuse Project.
