About this event

Join us for an informal discussion of how abstinence-based & harm reduction approaches can be integrated into psychotherapy.

We will discuss applications not just to harmful substance use, but to other compulsive behaviors and even obsessionality.

We will discuss a schema in which abstinence and harm reduction are not separate "camps." Rather, abstinence can be achieved through a harm-reduction process, and abstinence reduces harm.

Enjoy a cup of coffee or our signature Light of Day Organics Tea during our conversation in the light-filled, airy casually elegant Oasis North Shore venue in downtown Evanston.

About the presenter: Sarah Warren, PhD is a hospital-trained clinical psychologist who has been working with both harm reduction and abstinence-based approaches for over 35 years. She recently spent three days training with Andrew Tatarsky, PhD, arguably the architect of harm reduction psychotherapy.

Sarah Warren, PhD's vision for Oasis North Shore is to co-create a vibrant local community of like-minded clinicians who can enjoy Oasis' loft-like space in downtown Evanston, which offers flexible office sharing as well as an intimate casual gathering space for therapists to meet formally and informally.

The Oasis inviting gathering space is ideal for events such as small educational programs, book clubs, and case conferences.

Oasis features therapy offices-- available on a flexible part-time month-to-month basis-- well suited for psychological testing, and therapy for individuals and families.

The Founder of ARC Professional Group & Oasis North Shore, Sarah Warren, PhD earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University (Chicago.) Among other engagements, she has worked with the NFL Program for Substances of Abuse. With over 35 years or experience assessing and treating complex cases, she owns a team-based mental health practice that is grounded in both psychodynamic theory and practices such as mindfulness that help orient clients/patients themselves in the face of internal and external turmoil.

Based in Evanston & Chicago, Sarah Warren works from a psychodynamic understanding of human challenges, and enjoys convening, training, mentoring colleagues on working with complex cases while also sustaining themselves as clinicians.

She is one of the only senior clinical psychologists in the Chicago area who specializes in the assessment and treatment of individuals, couples and families who are struggling with substance use, as well as other complex conditions such personality and mood disorders, and complex trauma.

As a "convener," she founded Spheres of Influence Salon Climate on Change where she hosted dozens of Fireside Chats with nationally renowned experts to empower ordinary citizens to use their spheres of influence- however big or small- to tackle the climate crisis. She paused Spheres of Influence to focus on her clinical practice and raising her two red headed rascals, who have now launched to college where they are making their own contributions as budding leaders in their own right.
