A position at the forefront of new developments or ideas.Jazz Musicians who play MVJ embrace the definition of Vanguard in their Art of Music.Midtown Vanguard Jazz Series, is hosted by 501c3 Nonprofit Organization: Sacramento Preparatory Music Academy, on second and fourth Sundays of the month at The Auditorium.Dedicated & leading the way in supporting New Acoustic Jazz Music in Sacramento, by providing a platform for Artists & Jazz Composers to present public performances of their music, and to increase community awareness of the importance of artistic expression for individual satisfaction and growth. MVJ is an Artist Series for the benefit of the Artists. Sac Prep Music Academy, through it’s Mission, provides lighting, sound system & our beautiful Seven Foot Baldwin Grand Piano, and sets the stage and events with community volunteers. (Black American Music) music from our "Homegrown" roots & culture in Jazz Music.  Featuring David Mckissick on Piano & Trumpet,Ellwood Allen Jr on Bass, Eric Kuvakos on Guitar, And Zehrin Sims on the Drums. A Tribe Quartet is influenced by the likes of Nicolas Payton, Robert Glasper, Herbie Hancock, & Miles Davis.  Presenting a collection of original & modern Jazz Music, written by members of the band, motivated by jazz ledgends & personal experiences in order to make & express a genuine expression in Jazz Music. </DIV>

<DIV>Background: The Name A Tribe Quartet stems from to instances. The first was inspired from a lesson The Leader (David McKissick) had with Nicholas Payton when He was out in New Orleans fall of 2017. “In that particular lesson Nic was really harping on how all music is Tribal and for one to understand a specific type of music must subject themselves to that particular tribe(environment).  He also went on to talk about allowing ourselves  (The Muscian) To become a vessel to channel musical ideals”. The other instance was when Zehrin (Drummer) and I we trying to come up with names around the idea of tribalism and musical freedom. At the time we were talking about the relationship between bebop and hip-hop, Particularly the group “A Tribe Called Quest” as they use a lot of samples from bebop and swing music, Thus “A Tribe Quartet” was born </DIV>

<DIV>Bio: Independently each member of a Tribe Quartet have worked with and around some notable people. David For example had a Short stent with Solange Knowls while she was preforming at the Greek theatre in late October, while out in New Orleans he played trumpet with Glen David Andrews, The Trumpet Mafia, Nicholas Payton, And played in the second line thrown in honor of fats domino Fatts Dominos passing. </DIV>
