Motivational Interviewing, now in its 4th edition (August 2023), is an evidence-based practice used to promote growth and long-term behavior change. In addition to the accessibility of the style, it is important to note that trauma-informed principles of care overlap directly with Motivational Interviewing. Learning Objectives: After the training, learners will be able to identify the three communication styles as it relates to motivational interviewing; use the Directional OARS technique and apply them to evoke change talk; and correlate the Spirit of motivational interviewing with the principles of a trauma-informed system of care.
