Location: The Caldwell Hall, next to the Pryzbyla Center on the campus of The Catholic University of America.

About this event

Join chapter members and fellow pediatric advocates for our spring symposium as we work with community partners and leading youth voices to design a Prescription for District to build resiliency.

At the conclusion of the symposium participants will be able to:

  • Understand the true underlying causes behind interpersonal violence and its impact on youth.
  • Learn from community partners and adolescents about successful primary prevention strategies for building resiliency.
  • Discuss opportunities to utilize a trauma-informed approach to care in clinical and community settings.

Invited Attendees:

  • Chapter members and potential members
  • Community Leaders (ANCs, etc) and Youth Advocates
  • Councilmembers and Staff
  • DC Government Agency Leaders and Youth Departments
  • DC Metro Police Department
  • DC Public Schools/OSSE
  • Youth Service Organizations

Call to Action

Creating and sustaining a violence-free community is an integral part of DCAAP's advocacy agenda. Join us in a guided discussion as we design our approach to support local and national advocacy and legislative initiatives related to crime and gun violence prevention, including preventing adverse childhood events and promoting safe, stable nurturing environments.

COST:

  • FREE for Chapter Members. Medical Students - chapter membership is free for medical students - click here to join. Residents are typically enrolled in the chapter by their schools.
  • $50 for non-members, with the option to apply the cost toward a Chapter membership of $150.
  • FREE admission for non-DCAAP allied health professionals and community organization representatives.
  • FREE to community members connected to providing trauma-informed care, crime prevention and anti-violence initiatives in the District (scholarships available - see more at checkout)

WHEN: May 21st

  • 5:30-6:00 p.m. Networking and reception
  • 6:00-8:00 p.m. Dinner and program

LOCATION: In-person only. There will not be a virtual component to the event.

PARKING:

Caldwell Hall Auditorium is located across the parking lot from the Pryzbyla Center. The McMahon Parking Lot (Download the Flowbird parking app to pay for parking @ $2/hour). Parking is free after 6 p.m. Use code DCAOP if you arrive before 6 for complimentary parking.
