About this event

  • 1 hour

Until 1974 women’s football was banned in Scotland, repressing young women and girls who wanted to play the beautiful game. This is explored in Julie McNeill’s new book, and embodied by the legendary Rose Reilly. Born in Ayrshire, Rose was desperate to play football; to do this she left Scotland – eventually leading the Italian women’s team to World Cup victory!

Kirkcudbright Fringe is a new arts and culture festival taking place on 1-3 September 2023 - bringing together live music, film, comedy, visual arts, performance, and talks and discussion across the town. It aims to showcase a range of voices and talents - emerging, new and established - adding to the reputation and feel of Kirkcudbright, its public spaces and places.

As Kirkcudbright Fringe we work in partnership with a host of people and bodies to make our programme, and the experience that people will have, varied and enjoyable – for new and returning visitors, and local residents - further enhancing the reputation of our town and the Dumfries and Galloway region. We hope you like it, and welcome suggestions and input for future years.
