About this event

Discuss historical events of the U.S. in the 1920s through WWII and connect it both to the history of Fannin County and the historical context for In the Woods of Fannin County. Learn how many of our beautiful spaces were built through the New Deal and how the creation of the New South led to people leaving rural areas to move to more industrial cities. Explore many of the library resources utilized for the research of this presentation. See a snapshot of Fannin County 1932 including its main crops, square mileage, and population, before looking at how slowly laws regarding the protection of children spread to rural areas. Connect all of this to specific passages from the book, including how the children survived and the impact of moonshining in the area.
