About this event

  • 2 hours 30 minutes

We have developed an offer just for childminders! Bring your children along to take part in an active session on storytelling!

Finding the woods:

We are based in the grounds of Whitechapel C of E Primary School, Whitechapel Road, Cleckheaton, BD19 6HR.

You will be able to park in the school carpark. Follow the Green Explorers signs to the right towards a green gate, through the gate is a track which will lead down to the woods.

The woodland is accessible for prams if you will have one.

What to wear:

Please dress for the weather, we will be running rain or shine!

We hope for good weather in June but still bring wellies and waterproofs with extra layers just in case.

Please note that your children remain your responsibility throughout the session.

There aren’t many rules at the woods, but one big one is safety in the fire circle;

  • No running or climbing at the fire circle.
  • Sit on a tree stump when having a drink or toasting a marshmallow.
  • Walk around the outside of the tree stumps to move around the space.
  • Don’t step into the fire pit area, marked with wooden planks on the floor.

It will all be clear when you get there.

Approximately 15minutes from the end of the session we will start to tidy up, I will encourage little ones to join in the process. If they are still playing, let them finish off. If they aren’t up to tidying up, don’t worry!

Refreshments:

Hot drinks (tea, coffee, hot chocolate) and snacks (biscuits and marshmallows) will be available.

Dietary requirements are accommodated, there are vegan marshmallows available if needed and a milk alternative will be available.

Toilet:

A portable toilet will be available in the woods, in a tent for privacy. There will be instructions on how to use the toilet. It’s not very glamorous, but functional and I’ll keep it clean.

A potty and changing mat are available to use.

The space:

The woods have been cleared with small people in mind, most of the space is woodchipped so that it is relatively even. But bear in mind that woods are naturally more risky environments due to their nature. There may be trips and falls while little ones get used to the terrain.

There are also nettles and brambles around, I've cleared them from the main play areas, but some do pop up. Let me know and I'll pull them out with my gloves.

Otherwise, enjoy the natural space and get exploring, just keep plants/berries/flowers out of mouths.
