Description

Join Annette Sax who is a Taungurung Early Childhood Consultant, Artist and Storyteller in an interactive Aboriginal Professional Development Workshop. Participants will create a ‘Gift from Country’ using natural and recycled materials.Be inspired by the contemporary Aboriginal children’s book Yurri’s Birthday written by Yorta Yorta woman Sue Atkinson and illustrated by Annette Sax. Annette has been given permission to share Aboriginal Academic, Dr Sue Lopez-Atkinson’s research Indigenous Early Childhood Curriculum & Self Determination. We will discuss the importance of Elders as the First Peoples being the Teachers of the Environmental Knowledge. Annette will share the responses around Aboriginal Pedagogy in the Victorian Early Years. Participants are asked to collect one natural material to use with other natural materials Annette will supply for the Art experience. Please bring gum leaves, hard bark, paper bark, gum nuts or flowering gum. We will make a ‘Nature Bouquet’ using Indigenous plants and recycled materials.
