Train the Trainer Workshop

About this event

  • 3 hours 30 minutes

Join us for a FREE workshop to explore employment for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities for individuals and families. Workshop open to those supporting or working with individuals ages 13-26. This workshop serves to provide tools to engage families in the employment process. As a professional who supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, it may be difficult for you to help families see a future for their young adult, which includes employment. However, we know that people with all types of disabilities can, and do, work for real wages in the community. Teachers, agency personnel, advocates, and other professionals who support students ages 13-26 years old with disabilities are encouraged to attend to learn how to establish partnerships with families that lead to improved employment opportunities for students.

Build Professional Development & Learn to:

· Use parent training materials from the CA DD Council to help families embrace competitive employment as part of their student’s future

· Establish a better understanding of the experience of families

· Explore the impact of expectations and messaging on the decisions families make.

· Help families play a role in skill-building and finding opportunities for community-based work experiences

· Help families work through fears and apprehensions about competitive employment.
