Join us for a discussion on soil health with soil enthusiest, Wae Nelson, to learn about improving soil health for farming and the planet.
Wae will be doing a presentation on the details of soil science and how to incorporate practices to improve soil for better farming output. This will include a broad overview of how this can be implemented on a industrial level to combat the impacts of climate change.
This is a community potluck event so please bring something to share!
More about the presentation:
For over 80 years, the agricultural industry looked upon plant nutrition as a
chemical process. This resulted in the use of synthetic fertilizers and a flood of
ever more toxic pesticides. Recent advancements in research methods allowed
researchers to look inside the plants to better understand their metabolism. As a
result, they determined that we should be looking at plant nutrition biologically
rather than chemically and put our emphasis on the microbes in the soil for plant
nutrition. The technique is now called regenerative agriculture.
This presentation explains how regenerative ag functions and a basic
understanding of how to implement it. The result is crops that are immune to
insects and disease, the plants have larger yields and are more nutritious and
better tasting.
