Virtues & Vocations invites you to join us from June 3-5, 2024 at the University of Notre Dame for a conference on Higher Education & Human Flourishing, with keynote speakers David Brooks, John Inazu, and Michael Sandel.

  • The conference will open at 6pm on June 3 with a keynote address by author and commentator David Brooks followed by a reception.
  • Tuesday will include a full day of plenaries and breakout sessions on topics such as integrating virtue in professional education; professional education & public responsibility; purpose & well-being; and higher education, virtue & democracy.
  • John Inazu, professor of law & religion at Washington University will speak about his new book, Learning to Disagree.
  • There will be a half day of sessions Wednesday along with a closing keynote by Michael Sandel, professor of political philosophy at Harvard University.

Conference registration includes all meals on Tuesday along with breakfast and lunch on Wednesday. Travel and hotel are not included.

Who is this conference for?

The conference is particularly geared toward faculty who want to educate for flourishing and who teach in professional schools or pre-professional programs, however, we will have content that is relevant to faculty and staff working across higher education and the professions to cultivate character.

Is there really no fee to attend this conference?

Yes! There is no fee. All talks, sessions, and meals are included. We will, however, ask everyone who registers to confirm that they plan to attend by uploading either a travel or hotel receipt.

Are there any recommended hotels?

There are two hotels in walking distance to campus and the conference: Embassy Suites by Hilton South Bend at Notre Dame (574-400-2600) and Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott South Bend at Notre Dame ( 574-234-5510).

When is the deadline to register?

Registration will close on Friday, April 12.
