Paychecks, Prices & Possibilities: A Community Conversation on Jobs & Affordability - District 5

Overview

A thriving community depends on access to good jobs and strong educational resources. Paychecks, Prices & Possibilities invites residents to come together and explore the economic and educational concerns that shape daily life in District 5. By bringing these issues to light, we can begin shaping a path toward a stronger, more supportive, and better-resourced District 5.

Why This Matters

In a recent survey of District 5 residents, several critical concerns emerged related to economic stability and educational access. These issues directly impact daily life and long-term opportunities for families in the community. This conversation will focus on the types of jobs residents are seeking, the barriers they face in gaining employment, and the quality of educational resources available. Addressing these concerns is essential for building a more resilient and equitable community. Many residents have expressed uncertainty about job availability—only 32.26% believe there are enough jobs, while 64.52% feel there are not enough or are unsure. This discussion will focus on understanding the types of jobs residents seek, the obstacles they face, and how the community can work together to expand access to employment.

Economic strain also emerged as a key issue, with 45.16% of respondents reporting difficulty affording basic necessities such as food, electricity, and rent. This level of financial anxiety affects household stability and community well-being.

In addition, 54.84% of respondents are not satisfied with the learning options available in their community, pointing to serious concerns about the quality and variety of educational resources. This event will offer space to reflect on these gaps, share personal experiences, and collaborate on ideas to enhance educational opportunities for all ages.
