You are warmly invited to reserve your places, free of charge, for A Celebration of Isaac Watts, to be held at Melton Mowbray URC on Saturday 21 September. The event begins at 2.30pm, with gathering music from 2.00pm, and will include an act of Thanksgiving to mark this year's 350th anniversary of Watts's birth.
A Congregational minister, Watts is renowned as the "Father of English Hymnody" with many of his hymns (such as "Joy to the World" and "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross" still popular around the world today. For a time he taught in Leicestershire where he was associated with Freeby Chapel, now merged into Melton Mowbray URC, our hosts for this special celebration. Keynote speaker the Revd Dr Robert Pope will talk about Watts's God and his legacy for today, while there will also be opportunites to hear and sing several of his best-loved hymns. Free refreshments afterward will, naturally, include Melton Mowbray pork pies.
When booking you will also have an opportunity to nominate your favourite Watts hymns, which will inform the choices sung at the service. If you would like to contribute to the poll without booking at this stage, please email IsaacWattsHymns@gmail.com
Once you have booked, if you find for any reason that you are no longer able to come, please contact training@urc5.org.uk so that the space can be freed up for someone else.
