About this event

Let's get singing! We'll try to learn as much of a song as possible and perform it by the end of the meetup. Sheet music and practice files will be sent to you when you reserve your spot.

Song: Running Up that Hill

Artist: Kate Bush

Arranger: Emily Drum, MaryAnne Muglia

Voices: SATB

Score preview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vn943x1Y8hc

All levels welcome! We encourage you to familiarize yourself with the song and try to learn from the practice files ahead of time so we can spend as much time in the meetup as possible putting everything together. Short on time? Don't worry! Most songs are accessible to learn in a shorter time frame during the rehearsal.

A few housekeeping notes:

  • We try to rotate genres and voicings every so often to accomodate the group. This will be a bit of a learning process as we get off the ground with this new meetup.
  • Please stay home if you are not feeling well! We don't want to spread anything to a group of lovely singers. Masks are welcome, but stay home if you're sick!

Frequently asked questions

Where do I park?

Lemont Public Library has onsite, free parking!

I have a question about the music, who can I ask?

Send an email to acappellaintheburbs@gmail.com and we'll get you sorted out!

Do I need to have sung in a choir or a cappella group before?

Nope! If you like to sing and can learn music either through audio files/listening or reading music, you'll be fine. Practice files and sheet music will both be provided. Sign up early to get your practice files ahead of the meetup!

Can I keep the music?

Paper and digital copies for the meetup are the property of the organizer due to licensing restrictions, and the arrangement itself is the sole property of the arrangers. Please do not make any copies or take photos of the score.

What if I still want the music for myself? Where can I find it?

You can download your own copy of the music and support the arranger here: https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/en/product/running-up-that-hill-22439212.html

Is this an auditioned group?

Nope! This is open to the public and all skill levels.

Who gets the solo?

On the day of, time permitting, we'll have any folks who are interested in trying the solo give it a go! No auditioning required.

I haven't received my music? What should I do?

Most files are shared within a few hours of registration. Please make sure to check the email address you provided in your Eventbrite sign up and it's spam folder. If you still cannot locate your files, please email us at accappellaintheburbs@gmail.com.

What age group is this intended for?

Currently the meetup is designed for ages 16+, purely due to the pacing of the 2 hour jam. It's possible that some younger singers could comfortably keep up, but that would be at their discretion to join. Younger than high school attendees is not recommended without a parent participating as well.

Will there be paper copies of the score available?

Yes! We'll check with everyone closer to the event if they'd like paper copies for the actual jam. You are absolutely more than welcome to save paper by using your tablet or preferred device to load your score (some folks prefer this route).

Organized by

Come sing with us! A Cappella In the Burbs is a meetup group for folks who love to sing or maybe were in an a cappella group in college, but never lost that love of music. We host monthly sing-a-longs and other meetups to get folks back to singing together and networking to grow groups in the suburbs!
