Event Description:
The "A Brief History of Themed Entertainment" lecture will cover key areas in the history of themed entertainment starting with pre-theme park implementations including European nature parks, American seaside amusement parks, world’s fairs, kiddie parks, and early theming attempts. It will move into the modern industry kicked off by the opening of Disneyland in 1955. The session will end with a look at the contemporary internationalization and global influence.

Our Instructor:

Our instructor for this series is Dr. Carissa Baker from UCF, whose primary research is focused on narratives in the theme park space. She publishes and presents at conferences, universities, and themed entertainment industry events on various aspects of theme park creativity.


Slice Lecture Series:

This is Event #1 in a series of 6 events, entitled "The History of Themed Entertainment, a Slice Lecture Series". This series is intended to educate people who are actively working in the themed entertainment industry and would like to learn more about the wonderful community that we are part of; its origins, progression over the last few decades, and what the future may hold. 5 out of the 6 events will feature guest speakers and/or panelists of professionals from the themed entertainment community. All are invited to attend. Slice Members will be given priority in events that reach capacity.
