About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

We’re teaming up with our friends at Steeplejack Brewing to bring you a happy hour of sorts—with Jeff VanderMeer in the mix! Join us for a relaxed, conversational evening with the award-winning author behind Annihilation, Borne, and so many other wonderful worlds. Jeff will be hanging out, drink in hand, ready to chat. Ask him anything—from writing craft and ecological storytelling to what it's like seeing your book turned into a movie. Or just come for the vibes.

Still building your VanderMeer collection? Each ticket includes one of his books—yours to choose from a curated selection during checkout and take home the night of the event. Better move fast, there are limited quantities for some titles.

Here’s how it works:

  • Stop by Powell’s Books on Hawthorne after 4:30pm to check in, pick up your wristband, and grab your book.
  • Then take a short stroll (just 150 yards) to Steeplejack on Hawthorne, where your wristband gets you $5 beers, ciders, or non-alcoholic brews.
  • Hungry? Food carts out back have you covered.

We’re thrilled to bring this one-of-a-kind event to the community—books, beer, and brilliant conversation. What more could you ask for?
