A two-day hackathon where everyone is welcome to research, design, and build technologies that serve  the public interest.

<a href="https://www.nyu.edu/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"></a><a href="https://www.abettertech.net/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">A Better Tech Public Interest Technology Convention and Career Fair</a> is a virtual hands-on event for professionals, researchers and students interested in creating a better world through technology. It is the first convening of its kind in the US, bringing together the country’s most talented students and leading researchers with organizations and companies that are at the forefront of creating responsible and accountable tech that serves the public interest. The event is being convened by <a href="https://www.nyu.edu/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">New York University</a>, with support from <a href="https://www.newamerica.org/pit-un/about/members/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">New America's Public Interest Technology University Network</a>. The two-day A Better Tech-a-thon event will be an opportunity for participants to collaboratively apply their skills to innovate on a <a href="https://www.democracylab.org/events/a-better-tech-a-thon" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">wide range of active tech-for-good projects</a>, sourced from the <a href="https://brigade.codeforamerica.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Code for America Brigade Network</a> and <a href="https://democracylab.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">DemocracyLab</a>. The purpose of the hackathon is to help tech-for-good projects make incremental progress toward their long-term goals, and to give participants the opportunity to hone their skills, extend their networks, and begin long-term relationships as project contributors. Projects will need coders, designers, researchers, project managers, subject matter experts, test users, and just ordinary people. It’s a chance to get inspired, imagine a better future, and contribute your talents to the public good.
