A READING OF THE MOUNTAINTOP BY KATORI HALL

featuring TKS Faculty Onye Eme-Akwari and Celestine Rae. Directed by TKS Faculty Justin Cimino.

We are thrilled to invite the TKS community to this reading, benefiting our NextGen High School Summer Program!

About the Reading

The Mountaintop is a gripping reimagination of events the night before the assassination of the civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. On April 3, 1968, after delivering one of his most memorable speeches, an exhausted Dr. King retires to his room at the Lorraine Motel while a storm rages outside. When a mysterious stranger arrives with some surprising news, King is forced to confront his destiny and his legacy to his people.

“as audacious as it is inventive…[a] thrilling, wild, provocative flight of magical realism…This is playwriting without a net, a defiant poke in the eye of all historical conventions and political correctness…”

About the Fundraiser

Tickets to this reading are donation based (see minimum donation levels).

All funds raised will support scholarships for students of color to attend TK Studio’s 2024 NextGen Summer High School Acting Intensive. Current TKS students can donate with a Pay What You Can (PWYC) option, with a minimum of $20. For others, the PWYC donation starts at a minimum of $30. We invite those with the means to contribute more generously to do so, as every dollar makes a difference in the lives of these aspiring young actors. Your support ensures that talented students of color have access to invaluable opportunities in the performing arts. Thank you for your generosity!

If you can’t be with us on the 28th but still want to support our HS program, donate whatever amount you’d like and we will gift a ticket to someone so they can attend!
