About

The LSU School of Music is pleased to present the 9th Double Reed Day on Saturday, January 22, 2022.

This event is for double reed enthusiasts of all ages and abilities. Professionals, students, teachers, and music directors are all welcome.

This coming year's guest artists, Pedro Diaz and William Short, are renowned for their artistry and teaching expertise. LSU faculty Johanna Cox Pennington and Bill Ludwig will join them for a day of master classes that will culminate in a Grand Finale concert including guest artists, faculty and Double Reed participants.

The registration fee includes lunch, a Double Reed Day T-shirt, as well as access to all master classes, exhibits, and performances.

Schedule of Events:

9:00 a.m. Registration opens in the Lobby of the School of Music 

9:30 a.m. Oboe and Bassoon Master classes 

  • Recital Hall: Pedro Diaz, Oboe/English horn Master Class College Students
  • Room 114: Johanna Cox Pennington, Oboe Master Class Middle/High School Students
  • Room 118: William Short, Bassoon Master Class College Students
  • Room 115: Bill Ludwig, Bassoon Master Class Middle/High School Students

10:30 a.m. Oboe and Bassoon Reed Making Classes (Same rooms as above.)

11:30 a.m. Lunch and Exhibits (Room 118 and Faculty Lounge)

1:00 p.m. LSU College Student Master Classes

  • Oboes in the Recital Hall
  • Bassoons in Room 118

2:30 p.m. 3:30 p.m. Double Reed Ensemble Rehearsal All Participants (Room 118) 

3:30 p.m. GRAND FINALE CONCERT in SOM Recital Hall 

  • Free and open to the public!

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

This event is open to oboe and bassoon players of all ages and abilities. 

 

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

There is free parking in the School of Music parking lot on the corner of Dalrymple and Infirmary Drive. Enter through the Pleasant Hall Lot on Dalrymple. 

 

What can I bring into the event?

Participants should bring instruments and any reed making supplies they have for the reed making classes.

What's the refund policy?

There are no refunds accepted. 

 

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Please bring your printed ticket to the event.
