Estamos en la temporada alta de migración, ¡así que es un buen momento para salir y disfrutar del embalse y ver algunas aves! 🐦🕊️El Ridgewood Reservoir en Highland Park es un oasis natural de más de 50 hectáreas que se extiende a ambos lados de la frontera de Brooklyn y Queens. Construido en 1859 para distribuir agua de alta calidad a la ciudad de Brooklyn, una vez independiente, se volvió obsoleto con la adición de nuevos depósitos en Catskills en la década de 1950 y fue desmantelado en la década de 1980.Desde el desmantelamiento, la naturaleza siguió su curso como un ejemplo de sucesión ecológica. Join author and naturalist Heather Wolf for a bird walk at the Ridgewood Reservoir. With the weather turning it's a great time to come out and enjoy the reservoir and see some birds! 🐦🕊️The Ridgewood Reservoir in Highland Park is a 50+ acre natural oasis that straddles the border of Brooklyn and Queens. Built in 1859 to supply the once independent City of Brooklyn with high quality water, it became obsolete with the addition of new reservoirs in the Catskills in the 1950's and was decommissioned in the 1980's.Since then, nature took its course in a perfect case study of ecological succession. A lush and dense forest has grown in its two outside basins while a freshwater pond with waterfowl sits in the middle basin. This fresh water source is critical to migrating birds on the Atlantic Flyway.We will meet in the parking lot on 58-2 Vermont Place, Brooklyn, NY 11207, across the street from the reservoir.This event will be in both spanish and english.
