<h3>Landscapes set the stage</h3>Historic preservation includes more than buildings. The integrity of your property also includes your landscape. The pressure invasive plant species place on your landscape can be overwhelming and may create havoc in the landscape, threatening biodiversity.This online workshop will provide up-to-date, science-based information and insights to ensure historic properties promote sustainable landscapes (plants for a livable Delaware). Free to attend, but registration is required.Presented by <a href="http://www.preservationde.org" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Preservation Delaware, Inc</a>. intended for nursery and landscape industry professionals as well as homeowners and other land managers.<h3>Keynote Speaker</h3><a href="https://www.udel.edu/academics/colleges/canr/departments/plant-and-soil-sciences/faculty-staff/susan-barton/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Susan Barton</a> is a professor in the Plant and Soil Sciences Department at the University of Delaware. She has worked closely for the past 20 years with DelDOT to research and implement new roadside vegetation management strategies. She has also worked with partners to develop the Plants for a Livable Delaware Program, designed to provide alternatives to known invasive plants species and to promote sustainable landscaping. She teaches Plants and Human Culture, Farm to Table, Field Sketching of Landscape Subjects, Landscape Architecture Symposium and coordinates the Landscape Horticulture Internship. She also works closely with the nursery and landscape industry, writing newsletters, organizing short courses and conducting horticulture industry expos with the Delaware Nursery and Landscape Association. Susan received the Nursery Extension Award in 1995 from the American Nursery and Landscape Association and the Ratledge Award for service from the University of Delaware in 2007. Susan received her SITES AP certification in summer 2017.Special Addition: Jules Bruck, University of Delaware professor and Preservation Delaware board member, will broadcast live from Marian Coffin Gardens to showcase plants for Dr. Barton to review.Date: Wednesday, June 3, 2020Time: 12:00 pm EDT (1.50 hours)Zoom Details: The Zoom URL and password will be sent within one week prior to the event.
