PEEL DREAM MAGAZINE
New York, NY
https://peeldreammagazine.bandcamp.com/
Peel Dream Magazine represents the musical pursuits of New York-based musician Joe Stevens, a multi-instrumentalist and home recordist whose hazy Stereolab-indebted indie pop first went public via his 2018 debut, Modern Meta Physic. The Peel referenced in his project's name is legendary BBC DJ and tastemaker John Peel, whose ethos as a champion of creativity Stevens cites as an influence on his own approach. Written and recorded in his New York apartment in 2017, Peel Dream's debut album, Modern Meta Physic, is rooted in late-'80s and early-'90s indie pop, dream pop, and college rock replete with hypnotic, fuzzed-out organs and distant hushed vocal melodies. After signing with Slumberland Records, Stevens expanded his operation to a full band ahead of the album's October 2018 release.
HONEST HALOWAY
Washington, DC
https://honesthaloway.bandcamp.com/
My name is Tim Kratzer and I'm a DC native. Honest Haloway is my passion project that I started for the sole purpose of releasing anything and everything that I write, record, mix and produce. I started Honest Haloway in 2011, but the whole truth is it all started in the late 90's when I got my hands on a 4 track and an old bass, guitar, drums, and synthesizer, and started experimenting. I have stopped releasing LP's and EP's to release each song as I finish it. Honest Haloway's current lineup of friends, talented DC musicians, and all around good people is Fico Lazarro-Colon (Bass), Greg Balleza (Guitar, keys, backing vocals), Alfonso Bravo (Guitar, keys), & Rob Hart (Drums).
PEN PALINDROME
Washington, DC
https://penpalindrome.bandcamp.com/
Pen Palindrome is the solo project of Virginia-native, Ava Mirzadegan. Her songs function as a sort of roadmap for finding joy while experiencing grief and anxiety. She creates folk-tinged indie rock that is earnest and a little melancholic. But if you asked her, she’d call it “ambient rock you can take home to meet your family.” In March 2019, she released a collection of demos entitled Dilettante Ball. The songs were recorded in various rooms of her home onto a zoom recorder, and dubbed onto home-made cassette tapes. The songs acted as exercises in battling writer’s block. With lyrics that were mostly ad-libbed in a single sitting, the songs attempt to verbalize the unadulterated subconscious emotions of love, distance, and longing.
