As part of Black History Month, PREACH is committed to training community stakeholders in the African American community on utilizing the 988 system.Sunday, February 22nd from 3:30pm - 5:30pm join us for a community 988 Fest with food, fun and information. The event will be held at the Eden Park Branch Library, 5131 Greenwell Springs Road, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70806. We are focusing on faith leaders and community leaders that work with children and families.988 is a wonderful resource, but we know many people don't understand its purpose or how to utilize it. We invite everyone, faith leaders, youth leaders, parents, educators to join us in learning how to use the system and to get information on a variety of community resources.Using the 988 Lifeline is free. When you call, text, or chat the 988 Lifeline, your conversation is confidential. The 988 Lifeline provides you with judgment-free care. The purpose of 988 is to provide immediate, 24/7, free, and confidential support for anyone experiencing a mental health crisis, suicidal thoughts, or emotional distress by connecting them to trained crisis counselors through calls, texts, or online chat. It acts as a universal entry point, routing users to local resources for specialized care and resources, including options for veterans, youth, LGBTQ, Spanish speakers, and the deaf/hard of hearing.What 988 Offers:<ul><li>24/7 Support: Available anytime, day or night, for immediate help.</li><li>Confidential &amp; Free: Your conversations are private and don't cost anything.</li><li>Multiple Ways to Connect: Call, text, or chat online at 988lifeline.org.</li><li>Trained Counselors: Connect with compassionate, non-judgmental professionals.</li><li>Broad Scope: Help for suicidal thoughts, substance use crises, loneliness, depression, relationship issues, and more.</li><li>Veterans Crisis Line Access: Dial 988 and press 1 for specialized support for service members and veterans.</li></ul>How It Works:<ul><li>Dial or Text 988: You reach local resources.</li><li>Listen to Options: A menu directs your call to the right service: Veterans, Spanish, Youth, LGBTQ, local resources.</li><li>Connect with a Counselor: They listen, offer support, and connect you to local resources if needed.</li></ul>988 vs. 911:988: For options, mental health, substance use, and emotional crises.911: For immediate, life-threatening physical emergencies, requiring police, fire, or EMS.
