Conducting therapy virtually is no longer a thing of the future. As mental health providers, our job is to unearth ways of providing healthcare access to all community members. Telehealth is one way of increasing access to care. However, we still have to make sure that we can maintain our responsibilities uphold our ethical standards and protect the patient. This workshop will offer essential information like ethical standards, best practices, risk management, and legal implications for incorporating telehealth into your treatment setting. Dr. La Keita Carter is a licensed psychologist (LP) and licensed clinical professional counselor-supervisor (LCPC-S) in the State of Maryland. She completed her undergraduate degree in psychology at Temple University before completing her masters and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology at Loyola University Maryland. Practicing since 2009, Dr. Carter's therapy specialties are women's issues, trauma and crisis management, addictions, multicultural barriers in treatment, and relationship issues. She also enjoys psychoeducational testing for learning disabilities and learning giftedness and psychological evaluations for employment and surgeries. Her professional specialties include the supervision of budding counselors and psychologists and psychology administration.​ She successfully incorporated telehealth treatment in her practice several years ago and contributed to the field’s growing interest in it. She is a sought after presenter on multicultural issues in psychology having presented at the Maryland Psychological Association Annual Conference (March 2015), Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation (Minnesota), Maryland Behavioral Health Administration (June 2017 &amp; 2018), and Association for Psychology Training Clinics Annual Conference (San Juan, PR). She has also authored two psychology textbooks.Dr. Carter is a member of the Maryland Psychological Association (MPA); American Psychological Association (APA) -- Division 2 (The Society for the Teaching of Psychology) &amp; Division 35 (The Society for the Psychology of Women); and Association of Black Psychologists (ABPsi). She also serves as the vice-chair of the Board of Directors of Black Mental Health Alliance (BMHA) and a consulting editor for APA journal, Practice Innovations.

Ms. Donica Harper holds a masters degree in psychology with a specialization in military culture and families from Adler University. Prior to her masters degree, Ms. Harper earned two bachelor's degrees in psychology and biology from Winston-Salem State University. With a certificate in professional counseling studies from the University of Baltimore, she works as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) at the Institute for HEALing, LLC. Currently, she is working on her PhD in clinical psychology at Fielding University. ​Ms. Harper has experience working with children and adolescents who have special physical and developmental needs. Her clinical specialties include working with children and adolescents who have developmental, physical and emotional disorders, trauma/grief counseling, relationship and family concerns, and intimate partner violence. She treats a variety of disorders including PTSD, anxiety, and depression. Ms. Harper provides treatment in a number of ways, but one of her research interests involves virtual treatment. Lastly, she has a passion for working with military and first responders and their families. ​Ms. Harper is an active member in Psi Chi (International Honor Society in psychology) and the American Counseling Association.

The Maryland Psychological Association is approved by the American Psychological Association to offer continuing education for psychologists.
