Session 3: FrogWatch USA Training 2020
Spring is right around the corner and Potter Park Zoo is excited to announce this year’s Mid-Michigan FrogWatch USA Chapter training dates for aspiring frog watchers. Volunteers with FrogWatch USA are trained to learn when, where and how to collect data. They listen for and identify frog and toad calls at specific breeding sites around mid-Michigan, and then report their findings back to Potter Park Zoo. The information is then entered into a national database where it is used for monitoring the local amphibian population. Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of four listening sessions over the course of the frog/toad breeding season (April – September). For those who don’t live near a wetland or pond, there are several opportunities to listen in public places. Zoo staff can counsel participants on this.
