Our classes are  perfect for the aspiring sewist who is curious to try sewing or the self-taught sewist who would like to increase their knowledge and technical skill set!

Join us for a hands-on introductory course that will teach you the basic skills needed to cut &amp; sew a tote bag on a home sewing machine!

Skill level: BeginnerPrerequisite skills: NoneDo you want an entry-level class on sewing and garment construction? Do you have a sewing machine but are uncertain how to use it?Join us for a hands-on introductory course that will teach the foundational skills needed to construct simple garments. This class is perfect for the aspiring sewist who is curious to try sewing or the self-taught sewist who would like to increase their knowledge and technical skill set. Previous sewing experience is not necessary.Only 5 places!Students will work on Janome HD-3000 and School Mate 7330 straight-stitch home sewing machines and Janome and Babylock home sergers.Students will:<ul><li>Cut and sew a tote bag;</li><li>Learn sewing vocabulary, including sewing machine parts and apparel construction terminology;</li><li>Learn how to thread and operate a conventional sewing machine, including trouble-shooting common issues;</li><li>Receive instruction on how to read a commercial sewing pattern;</li><li>Learn basic techniques to create sewn products, including how to pin and cut fabric and order of operations for construction; and</li><li>Receive a complimentary Rightfully Sewn sewing pattern for a tote bag to continue sewing at home.</li></ul>All sewing tools will be provided by Rightfully Sewn Academy and it's donors in order to promote and encourage a sustainable future in the fashion industry. Rightfully Sewn has fabric available for you to use, but if you want to bring in your own fabric or upcycle any fabric from home (ex: sheets, curtains, table cloths, old clothing), feel free to do so!C lass is taught by an Academy Instructor.
