Bell Museum, The Nucleus

<p>Social media is a key part of life bringing people together in culture, life events, and information sharing. We can take small steps to ensure everyone can access postings in both our personal and professional worlds. </p><p>This session will give you hands on experience in creating accessible posts across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. We will cover alternative text, camel case, simple language use, and perspectives from the vision loss community. </p><p>#DiscoverAccess</p><p></p><h3>Working Session</h3><p>This will be a working session in which we will ask you to try the concepts we are discussing for yourself and receive feedback from users and the group. Participants will be asked to use their own social media and take photos at the Bell Museum in order to practice the concepts discussed. Please be sure to bring your phone, computer or tablet in order to get the most out of this session. </p><p>We encourage you to join us after the training from 5-6 pm for a networking hour with coffee, tea, water, and light snacks. </p><h2></h2><h2>ACCESSIBILITY</h2><h3>Training/Presentation Accommodations</h3><p>Assisted listening devices (ALD) will be provided. The 2nd floor can be accessed via elevator or stairs. Free wheelchairs and walkers are available for use at any time during your visit to the museum. Working guide and service animals are always welcome at the Bell Museum. For the safety of service animals and our visitors, comfort animals are only allowed if they are needed to perform a task that will or could be needed during a visit to the museum. </p><p>Accessible parking spaces are available close to the main building entrance. There is also a drop off area near the main entrance (before entering the parking lot). Bathrooms with accessible stalls can be found on both floors of the museum. On the main floor is a gender neutral bathroom that also has an adult lift table. The museum also has a Quiet Room—a dedicated, single-use space available for families and individuals with sensory-sensitivities, parents with infants, as well as a private space for prayer or meditation.</p><p>Additional venue specific access information can be found on the <a href="https://www.bellmuseum.umn.edu/access/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">access page of the Bell Museum website</a>.</p><h2></h2><h2>LOCATION, PARKING, AND OTHER</h2><h3>Parking , Bus, and Light Rail</h3><p><strong>Parking</strong></p><p>Paid surface lot parking, managed by UMN Parking &amp; Transportation Services, is available with an entrance off of Larpenteur Ave.  Accessible parking spaces are available close to the main building entrance. The daily rate is $5. Note: The parking fee is waived for any vehicle in the lot under 10 minutes.</p><p><strong>Metro Mobility or Other Ride Services</strong></p><p>The main entrance is fully accessible from the parking lot. A drop off and pick up area is available near the building entrance, before entering through the pay stations.</p><p><strong>Bus</strong></p><p>Metro Transit’s Route 61 runs between downtown Minneapolis and downtown St. Paul, and stops near the museum on Larpenteur Ave &amp; Coffman St. Bus route frequency varies between 30 minutes – one hour; no service on Sundays. Visit Metro Transit to plan your trip.</p><p>The University provides FREE shuttle service around campus. The St. Paul Circulator (M-F, 7am – 6pm, every 15 minutes) also stops at the museum drop off area near the main entrance. It is about a 10 minute ride from most of the stops near the center of the St. Paul campus.</p><p><strong>Biking</strong></p><p>If the parking lot is full, an attendant will be on site to direct you to nearby parking alternatives. Bike racks are available on two sides of the museum site: north, near the main entrance/Larpenteur Ave and south, near the recreation fields/Cleveland Ave. See the St. Paul campus biking map for more details once you are on campus.</p><p></p><h2></h2><h2>ALTERNATIVE TRAINING ATTENDANCE OPTIONS</h2><p>This training will be available in three different formats. The first is the facilitated remote session at the Bell Museum in St. Paul, MN. This event is for the facilitated remote session. The training will also be available via an in-person session in Duluth and a webinar. </p><h3>Webinar</h3><p>The webinar for this event will be broadcast live to watch in the convenience of your own home or office. Please select the webinar option when checking out to be sure to receive the webinar link and links to any supporting documents which may be used in the session. The presentation content will be the same for the Duluth session. After the session, the webinar will be posted to the <a href="https://mnaccess.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Minnesota Access Alliance website</a> and shared on the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/mnaccess.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Minnesota Access Alliance Facebook</a>.</p><h3>In-Person Session at the Great Lakes Aquarium (Duluth, MN)</h3><p>This remote session is being broadcast live from the Great Lakes Aquarium in Duluth, MN. The presentation content is the same as the St. Paul session.
