For more information call 763-689-2474.Join us for an inspiring presentation by Braham native Marlene Johnson as she presents her new book, Rise to the Challenge: A Memoir of Politics, Leadership, and Love published by the University of Minnesota Press. Marlene will be in conversation with Braham native Tim Nelson. You don't want to miss this!Marking a milestone for women in state government, Marlene M. Johnson became Minnesota’s first woman lieutenant governor under Rudy Perpich’s gubernatorial administration in January 1983. That same year, she met her husband, Peter, and their deeply loving relationship profoundly sustained her for twenty-seven years. Rise to the Challenge weaves these personal and professional stories together in a courageous portrait of dedication and leadership.Growing up in rural Minnesota, Johnson began organizing and advocating for change early, beginning with a campaign to introduce foreign languages into her high school curriculum. Pursuing a deeply felt commitment to improving the lives of others, she continued to sharpen her leadership skills throughout her life, participating in activist work in college, cofounding organizations to support women entrepreneurs and politicians, and eventually running an international education nonprofit.Tim Nelson is a native of Braham and currently serves as the Chief Deputy Isanti County Attorney. Tim also serves as the Chair of the Advisory Board for the Braham Area Education Foundation and on the Board of Trustees at the Initiative Foundation, a nonprofit organization supporting community and economic development throughout Central Minnesota. Tim is a graduate of St. Olaf College and the Yale Law School, and was a Policy Fellow at the University of Minnesota's Humphrey School of Public Affairs from 2012 to 2013.Books are instock now at Scout &amp; Morgan Books and will be available for purchase at the event.
