Cornell Cooperative Extension Marine Program has been “giving back to the bays” since 1985. As regional leaders in all aspects of coastal and marine research and restoration on Long Island, we have been able to make significant progress in enhancing the health of our local waterways. Through the Back to the Bays Initiative we work at the community level with local supporters and stewards to provide meaningful opportunities for involvement in this important work.

Back to the Bays Stewardship Sessions

Stewardship - the act of caring for the natural environment. These workshops allow citizens of all ages to participate in the habitat and shellfish restoration efforts of CCE Marine Program. Become a Steward at backtothebays.org/stewardship.

Stewardship Session - Coastal GardeningWelcome to our upcoming Stewardship Session, where our team of experts and educators will lead you in coastal gardening and restoration work! Join us at our Tiana Bayside Facility for a hands-on session filled with tips and tricks on how to create a thriving coastal garden including: <ul><li>Native plant species and their role in coastal ecosystems</li><li>Coastal plant maintnence and care</li><li>Back to the Bays restoration projects and related Stewardship Sessions (including the many ways you can stay involved!)</li></ul> Ages 10 and up welcome. Be prepared to get dirty. Work gloves are recommended. No matter the weather, it is a good idea to bring a hat, sunscreen, and water, and wear appropriate clothing and shoes (close toed shoes encouraged).This FREE Stewardship Session is made possible by contributions to our Stewardship Program. We encourage all participants to become an official 2024 Back to the Bays Steward.
