(This walk included activiities with materials that are not possible in the rain).The rescheduled date is SEPTEMBER 5 @ 6:00PM.Practice careful and slow observation skills on walk with one of the Naval Cemetery Landscape gardeners while taking a closer look at plants and other living organisms in the Naval Cemetery Landscape's urban meadow and pollinator habitat. Join NCL gardener Caitlin Lynch to learn the names and characteristics of plants in the landscape and practice applying the knowledge individually through careful observation and guided note-taking and drawing. Native plants support a rich array of life: soil and other microorganisms, insects, birds, and us! Participants will hone skills in observation while considering aesthetics, form and function. The Naval Cemetery Landscape is fully operated, made open as a public space and able to provide free public programs like this solely by Brooklyn Greenway Initiative through the generosity of our supporters.About The Walk Leader:Caitlin is a graduate student in the Earth and Environmental Science program at Brooklyn College (CUNY) studying ecological restoration. Her love of plants is what inspired her to return to school where she found a passion for field work and research. She is interested in the edible/medical uses of plants, seed collecting, and urban ecology. If she is not out in the wetlands of Jamaica Bay measuring grass, or at a beach clean-up, she can be found trying to identify every plant in sight.
