Gallery Talk: ‘The Art of Documentary Filmmaking?' with Irushi Tennekoon, Anomaa Rajakaruna and Sharni Jayawardena

In this final Gallery Talk of ‘88 Acres’, artist and art educator Irushi speaks to filmmakers Anomaa and Sharni on approaches to storytelling through documentary making. Anomaa will pay specific attention to her films ‘Women Who Loved Women in Sri Lanka’ (2010) and ‘Our Mother, Grandmother, Prime-minister: Sirimavo’ (2023) while Sharni will speak about ‘Being Here’ (2023) and ‘The Wronged Right’ (2018). Irushi will draw from the animated documentaries in her series ‘Animate Her’ (2019–2022) and ‘is this an architectural documentary?’ (2023). This Gallery Talk has been curated as part of the Public Programmes of the exhibition ‘88 Acres: The Watapuluwa Housing Scheme by Minnette De Silva’, on view until 7 July 2024. ‘අක්කර 88’ ප්‍රදර්ශනයේ මෙම අවසාන ගැලරි කතාවේදී කලාකරු සහ අධ්‍යාපනඥ ඉරුෂි, චිත්‍රපට නිර්මාණකාරිණියන් වන අනෝමා සහ ශානි සමඟ වාර්තා චිත්‍රපට නිර්මාණය හරහා කතා කීමට ඇති ප්‍රවේශ පිළිබඳ කථා කරයි. මෙහිදී අනෝමා ‘Women Who Loved Women in Sri Lanka’ (2010), සහ ‘Our Mother, Grandmother, Prime-minister: Sirimavo’ (2023) වෙත විශේෂ අවධානයක් යොමු කරන අතර, ශානි ‘Being Here’ (2023) සහ ‘The Wronged Right’ (2018) නිර්මාණ පිළිබඳ කතා කරයි. ඉරුෂි සිය ‘Animate Her’ (2019–2022) මාලාවේ සහ ‘is this an architectural documentary?’ (2023) හි එන සජීවිකෘත වාර්තා චිත්‍රපටිවලින් උදාහරණ ඈඳා ගනු ඇත.මෙම ගැලරි කතාව 2024 ජූලි 7 දක්වා නැරඹීමට ඇති ‘අක්කර 88: මිනෙට් ද සිල්වා විසින් කළ වටපුළුව නිවාස යෝජනා ක්‍රමය’ ප්‍රදර්ශනයේ මහජන වැඩසටහන්වල කොටසක් වෙයි.‘88 ஏக்கர்கள்’ குறித்த இந்த இறுதி கலரிக் கலந்துரையாடலில் கலைஞரும் கல்வியாளருமான இருஷி கதை கூறல் மற்றும் ஆவணம் தயாரித்தலில் பெண்ணிய அணுகுமுறைகள் குறித்து விவரணப்படத் தயாரிப்பாளர்கள் அனோமா மற்றும் ஷானிவுடன் பேசுவார். அதில் அனோமா ‘Women Who Loved Women in Sri Lanka’ (2010), மற்றும் ‘Our Mother, Grandmother, Prime-minister: Sirimavo’ (2023)ஆகியவற்றில் விசேட கவனம் செலுத்துவார். அதேவேளை ஷானி அவர்கள் ‘Being Here’ (2023) மற்றும் ‘The Wronged Right’ (2018) போன்றவை பற்றிப் பேசுவார்.7 ஜூலை 2024 வரை பார்வைக்கு வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ள ‘88 ஏக்கர்கள்: மினெட் டி சில்வாவின் வடபுழுவ வீட்டுத் திட்டம்’ கண்காட்சியின் பொது நிகழ்ச்சிகளில் ஒன்றாக இந்த கலரி உரையாடல் வழங்கப்படுகிறது.
