We are excited to announce the beginning of our 2024-25  Concert Series!  We kick off the season with Beethoven, Handel, and Okpebholo.

PROGRAM:George Friedrich Handel - Concerto Grosso Op. 6, No. 12 <a href="https://www.shawnokpebholo.com/" title="https://www.shawnokpebholo.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Shawn Okpebholo</a> - "Fractured Water" commissioned by the SFCO with support from the NEA and <a href="https://sfcm.edu/discover/initiatives/emerging-black-composers-project" title="https://sfcm.edu/discover/initiatives/emerging-black-composers-project" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Emerging Black Composers Project</a> Ludwig van Beethoven - Symphony No. 1 Op. 21 To celebrate the SFCO’s “New Beginning” with Jory Fankuchen at the helm, we kick off our season with Handel’s dramatic Concerto Grosso Op. 6 in B minor. This is a work of intense contrasts, filled with virtuosity, spirit, and warmth. The soulful Largo features one of Handel's most heartfelt and memorable melodies The world premiere of Shawn Okpebholo’s Fractured Water celebrates water as a precious resource by transforming it into a musical instrument. The piece brings awareness to pressing concerns about water pollution, conservation, and preservation. Despite the risks posed to vital waterways throughout the world, Fractured Water also brings hope. And to close out the concert, we present the first of what would become the most important and groundbreaking nine symphonies in the classical canon. Beethoven's Symphony No. 1 is imbued with fire and brilliance, elegance and finesse. While the music pays homage to his preceding masters, Haydn and Mozart, the young Beethoven is already showing signs of the revolutionary artist that would alter the trajectory of classical music forever.
