Women Writing for (a) Change Jacksonvilleis a growing community for Jacksonville writers. We focus primarily on women, but not exclusively. We strive to reach a diverse audience and to make our programs accessible to all, including all cultural groups, genders, and communities.

A world which gives me my own lifework to do, because it was here that I learned the sight of my own particular eyes.</blockquote> This fall we will explore the ”spaces and places“ of our own world. What has shaped you and your own particular view ? What are the landscapes of your heart and mind and body?We will explore our past...the landscapes, the places, the spaces that defined you. We will explore our present: What is happening NOW in our world? And we’ll explore the future: what spaces and places do you long to see and explore? (Plan for a field trip or two as a part of the adventures this semester!)And...what are you intentionally making space for in your life right now—for you, or for others? Let's explore:THIN SPACES * HOME SPACES * INNER SPACES * MAGICAL PLACES * GREEN PLACES * COMMUNITY SPACES * THIRD SPACES and more.Join us for this series inspired by the work of our two Zora Neale Hurston Fellows and Artists-In-Residence, Teresa Cook and Emily Mitchell, as they explore their own ideas of ”Spaces and Places” on their canvases. Use this class to find out more about Women Writing for (a) Change’s amazing process, used by thousands of women across the country since 1991 to express their authentic selves through writing and community-building. We'll use prompts, poetry, and prose to practice many different writing techniques.Experienced writer? If you decide to take the follow-on series, you'll have a chance to sharpen your craft and technique in our small-group circles. You can bring whatever project you're working on and expect good feedback from people you can trust. But if you just stay for the Sampler, that works too! Whatever helps you enliven your writing life.BACKGROUNDThe Women Writing for (a) Change® school was founded in 1991 by Mary Pierce Brosmer, a practicing poet and former English teacher. She developed WWf(a)C to encourage women to find their voices, speak their truths, and tell their stories in a world in which they were often silenced. (womenwriting.org).The Jacksonville-affiliated school was established in 2014 by Jennifer Wolfe, evolving into a non-profit in 2018, and adding eight certified facilitators in 2019 and 2023.
