This session will provide an overview of the steps in the real estate development process.

In this session, you’ll learn about different real estate ownership models, including how the <a href="https://www.theguild.community/community-stewardship-trust/" title="https://www.theguild.community/community-stewardship-trust/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Community Stewardship Trust</a>‘s real estate model works. You will be learn the regulatory, financial, community, and operational aspects of real estate development, and how the CST approaches these to create affordable, community owned real estate in partnership with local residents and organizations.Lunch will be provided at 5:30pm, session begins promptly at 6:00 pm. <h3>LEARNING GOALS:</h3><ul><li>Describe the process and steps of real estate development</li><li>Understand various real estate ownership models and the differences between individual private ownership and collective ownership, as well as what distinguishes the CST</li><li>Collectively define what land stewardship means and understand how land stewardship its links with real estate development</li><li>Learn history and past examples of Black and Indigenous collective land stewardship.</li><li>Name and consider some of the possible short- and long-term challenges of collective stewardship of land and buildings in a community</li><li>Gain clear expectations for the timelines, diverse stakeholders and participants, regulatory challenges, and other kinds of complexity involved in real estate development</li><li>Understand real estate development enough to be able to become an informed investor member in the CST</li></ul>Facilitators: Nikishka Iyengar – Founder and CEO, The Guild Joel Dixon – Principal, Urban Oasis Development To ensure these classes are financially accessible to everyone, free tickets to all sessions are available on request.
