A joyful and energetic ode to the people and music of Lisbon, highlighting the innovative Afro-Portuguese music scene.

This is an exuberant documentary portrait of a city through the lives of different generations of artists from Angola, Sao Tome, Cabo Verde and Guine Bissau. Lisbon Beat (Batida de Llisboa) highlights the innovative Afro- Portuguese music scene thriving on the outskirts of Lisbon. Cinematographer Vasco Viana and Lisbon-born, London-based DJ Rita Maia depict a vibrant community of musicians and producers from diverse backgrounds each establishing their relationship to this complex city. Among many other notable figures, the film features DJ Nigga Fox, previously represented by Portugal’s Principé label, and recently signed by Sheffield’s Warp Records.
This event is part of the 7th edition of IberoDocs, the Ibero-American Documentary Film Festival in Scotland (26 FEB - 15 MARCH).
