SANCTUARY – The Sounding of Nature with Mark Biehl

The Center for Spirituality and Sustainability is an independent, not-for-profit organization located in a geodesic dome designed by Buckminster Fuller on land leased from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE). Since 1971 the Center has served the University and area communities as a place for multifaith and interfaith activity.  A variety of educational, cultural and social events are held throughout the year inside this landmark structure.Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim, Baha’i and Native American faith traditions hold devotions, celebrations and public programs at the Center. A “Celebration of World Faiths” is held annually, highlighting various faith traditions and interfaith issues. The Center also hosts an annual awards ceremony honoring two awardees each year. One award is presented for spiritual leadership and another for leadership in sustainability. These annual dual awards allow the Center recognize those who have shown leadership values that reenforce the Center's mission to promote humanity's sacred connection to the Earth and each other.

Twice a month, the Dome's unique acoustics serenade attendees under the guidance of sound facilitators Ashaleah and Mark Biehl. Join us for these deeply meditative and restorative events.

Featuring the ambient sounds of nature as a lush backdrop to the healing power of Himalayan singing bowls. Also including drumming, sacred sound instruments of the earth and vocal OM chant to ground and bring us into alignment with our true nature. “The mountains, rivers, earth, grasses, trees and forests are always emanating a subtle precious sound, demonstrating and expounding to all people the unsurpassed ultimate truth." – Yuan-Sou SANCTUARY is a complete immersion into the world of sound and vibration that will gently guide you into a state of heightened awareness and lasting tranquility. Merging the vibrational energies of over twenty beautifully tuned Himalayan singing bowls, gongs, drums, indigenous flute and the voice, we are transported into blissful awareness where our own inner light is revealed and new life awakens. Let SANCTUARY be your ideal refuge for a more focused, peaceful and balanced life. The Buckminster Fuller Dome (Center for Spirituality &amp; Sustainability) provides the perfect setting for an inspiring sound healing experience! Please bring your own yoga mat, blanket, pillow, and eye covering (optional). Dress comfortably and bring some water to drink. It's preferable not to eat for an hour prior. Bio:Mark Biehl, CVSC, LSHC lifelong musician and composer, is the founder of Acuity Soundworks®, dedicated to the development and presentation of music and sound to inspire creative thought and action. Mark is a Certified Vibrational Sound Coach and Licensed Spiritual Health Coach. He has received training in Primordial Sound Meditation with Deepak Chopra, traditional shamanic sound practices with Zacciah Blackburn of the Center of Light Institute, and Certification in Sound Healing with Himalayan Singing Bowls from Nepalese Master Teacher Suren Shrestha. He has twenty years’ experience in sound healing, and offers both private and group sound sessions. Mark believes in the idea that sound creates a gateway into deeper levels of consciousness, the heart, and soul. As a result, he utilizes various sound tools and the voice in conjunction with his spiritual health coaching skills and positive intention to gently support positive shifts in our perspective on life.
