What is Author Study?

Author Study was created as a way to virtually bring Kwame Alexander and other notable authors into classrooms, libraries, and community groups at an exclusive rate (including discounted registration for Title I schools and homeschoolers).

How does Author Study support literacy standards and learning goals?

Every Author Study event  focuses on an area of reading and/or writing aligned with most curriculum standards. You can view a document on  Kwame's website: https://kwamealexander.com/authorstudy/classroom-materials/.

What are the payment options?

Accepted Answer

Registered attendees can pay online by credit card, debit, Paypal or Google Pay through the Eventbrite system. Payment by check registration is now closed.

When does registration close?

Accepted Answer

If paying by check, registration must be completed by October 24, 2024. If paying by credit card, registration closes on October 28.

Question 5

Will I receive confirmation and reminder emails with information on how to login / join?

Accepted Answer

Once you’ve completed registration through Eventbrite, you will receive initial confirmations from both Eventbrite as well as Zoom Webinars, with information on how to login / join the event. You will also receive reminder emails leading up to the event, including one week and one day prior.

Can I use the registration login from one device to broadcast into multiple classrooms?

The single login can also be used if your school or organization is set up internally to broadcast from one device into multiple classrooms.

Where is the webinar / livestream / virtual event being held?

Author Study will be hosted on Zoom Webinars. Note, the Zoom room will open 10 minutes prior to the event start time.

Is there a discount for multiple registrations?

Will there be a recording of this event available?

Accepted Answer

Author Study is a virtual, interactive, LIVE, registered event; recordings of the livestream will not be available for future viewing. The event may not be recorded by participants due to copyright.

What is the agenda for the event?

Author Study events include a reading, book talk, craft minilesson, guest interview, and live Q&A; however, please refer to the event listing for specifics and further details.

What age range are Author Study events for?

Accepted Answer

All Author Study events are appropriate for all ages, although students in grades 4-12 may get the most benefit from this October 29 event. There are Author Study events planned specifically for younger audiences; refer to AuthorStudy.com for details on each event.

Question 13

Can we submit questions ahead of time?

Accepted Answer

Attendees are  welcome (and encouraged!) to have students prepare questions ahead of time, which can be submitted during the livestream via the Zoom Webinar chat. Kwame will not answer questions submitted before the event.

Question 14

Is there any curriculum related to the craft lesson?

Following the event, a curriculum worksheet recapping the writing craft minilesson will be provided via email to registered attendees. Refer to AuthorStudy.com for other classroom resources for teachers and students, too.

How many questions will be answered during the event?

We generally set aside 15 minutes for the live Q&A portion. Some questions require more detailed answers, but Kwame will address as many as he can during the this time frame.

Can I use the registration login link and passcode for multiple classrooms?

Accepted Answer

The login cannot be used on multiple devices concurrently. Each registration provides a single login that can be used from one device to broadcast to as many students as you'd like in a single location, whether that is within an individual classroom or through a larger assembly.

What are the registration options?

Accepted Answer

Classroom &  Library General Registration: $375 for one, or two for $650; Title I  & Homeschoolers Registration: $250 for one, or two for $400. Homeschool educators are welcome to team up with other homeschool families in your area (if possible) to join / view / participate as a group.

Question 18

Can I cancel my registration and get a refund?

Accepted Answer

You are able to request a cancellation of your registration and obtain a refund through October 22 for this Author Study event. After October 22, 2024, if an organization cancels their registration, their fee will be applied to a future Author Study event of their choice.
