<h4>Twin Cities Film Fest is proud to celebrate diversity of our local cultural heritage through a series of MNmicro Film Festivals!</h4> <h4>We will be kicking off the celebration by showcasing 5 feature presentations by local filmmakers on June 23, 2024, at the Showplace ICON Theatres in St. Louis Park. All screenings will be FREE for our community and audiences. In true festival fashion, we'll have Red Carpet Filmmaker Interviews, Post Film Discussions and an Event in celebration of PRIDE month!</h4> This work is funded in part by MHC with money from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund that was created with the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008. FILM #2: FREE CeCe!Directed by: Jacqueline GaresSynopsis: On her way to the store with a group of friends, Chrishaun Reed “CeCe” McDonald was attacked. In fighting for her own life, a man was killed. After a coercive interrogation, CeCe was incarcerated in a men’s prison in Minnesota. An international campaign to free CeCe garnered significant support from media and activists, including actress and executive producer Laverne Cox. Laverne uses her platform to explore the roles race, class, and gender played in CeCe’s case.CeCe emerges not only as a survivor, but as a leader. Documentarian Jac Gares pushes past everyday narratives of victimhood that surround the lives of trans people, to foreground the way CeCe and other trans people are leading a growing movement to critically interrogate and disassemble the prison industrial complex.
