VBC 24 Placemaking Design-Build Workshop

By empowering Portland residents and local leaders to creatively transform shared public spaces into vibrant gathering places, City Repair fosters thriving, connected communities. Our hands-on, collaborative placemaking—from colorful street murals to plazas to imaginative natural play areas—builds local resilience, celebrates unique cultures, and strengthens our city's social fabric block by block.

City Repair

A day-long workshop to design, build, and decorate custom creations for a public space in your community.

ReBuilding Center

Join Austin and City Repair to get together with members of your community to design imaginative outdoor furniture! In teams, we will design, build, and decorate custom creations for a public space in the community. We’ll meet in the morning to begin exploring what we can create together in small teams. Leaving preconceived ideas behind, we’ll imagine, sketch, and build prototypes or final creations, as time allows. Let’s make something original together!The workshop will take place within the workshop at the <a href="https://www.rebuildingcenter.org" title="https://www.rebuildingcenter.org" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">ReBuilding Center,</a> where we will tour facilities, get inspiration from beautiful and durable placemaking projects there, and gather supplies.No building or design experience required. Materials will be provided, but feel free to bring your own paint or items for decorating if you’d like. Please wear close-toed shoes and clothing you are prepared to build and paint in. Vegetarian lunch will be provided. <h3>REGISTRATION</h3> We ask for a sliding scale donation to help us cover the cost of this workshop. No one turned away due to lack of funds. Please support at whatever level you are able.&gt;&gt; Each person should register separately for this workshop.This workshop is limited to 18 people - register early! Please register with the intention to the stay for the whole day.
