ABOUT THIS EVENTThere is more to this hiking event for some of you; as a first time venture into the wilderness at over 9000 feet, breathtaking (literally) views across valleys and mountains, sometimes rugged, steep, challenging trails and the unexpected that's right around the next bend. So, what more could it be? ...... It would be your hike leaders, Jack Pensagrau and Kathryn Burrows. They cofounded the San Jacinto Hiking Club in 2010. Both have an impressive history of hiking and mountaineering experiences. They have accrued dozens of ascents and cross country hikes in the Sierra Nevada and the Southern California Mountains as well as winter snow and ice ascents from Mt. Shasta ((14,180 ft.) in the north to Mount San Gorgonio (11,499 ft.) in the south of California, not to mention many ascents of all the peaks of the San Jacinto Range over 10,000 ft. They may share a story or two with you along the way as well as covering some basics of hiking which can enhance the pleasure of your experience. All together you may be inspired to go the rest of the way next time! This is a loop hike! Just around the "corner" from your destination, Wellman's Divide, is the Cienega oasis, the source for a lush expanse of blooming mountain wildflowers......when you're there at the right time. This should be the right time. Enjoy!DETAILS:Please note; all text highlighted in blue is a link to important information you must read to assist registration and timely arrival.<ul><li>Hike Leaders: Jack Pensagrau and Kathryn Burrows</li><li>Event Date and Time: June 1 at 8:45 a.m. (<a href="https://www.msjnha.org/gitwn" title="https://www.msjnha.org/gitwn" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">see our website</a> for instructions on purchasing Tram tickets and arriving on time) Remember <a href="https://www.msjnha.org/members" title="https://www.msjnha.org/members" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">MEMBERS </a>receive a 20% discount on Tram tickets.</li><li>Meet at: The Long Valley Ranger Station ( go to the bottom of the ramp to the Long Valley and proceed to the right to the Ranger buiilding) Depart LVRS approximately 9 a.m.</li><li>Difficulty level: Strenuous, subject to higher elevaton with 25% less oxygen.</li><li>Hiking distance: approximately 7 miles, about 1300 ft. of elevation gain.</li><li>Hiking Time: Return approximately 2 p.m.</li><li>Hike Qualifier: This hike will serve as a qualifier for future hikes rated Strenuous. If you may be interested in participating in such a hike please inform your leader at the beginning of this hike.</li></ul>REQUIREMENTS:<ul><li>Each individual must register on line, in advance, to participate, one individual per registration using your own name, even when with others in your own group. If later you are unable to attend please use the cancellation option on your own registration receipt.</li><li>Take the 8 am tram car to arrive at the meeting location on time.
