The Community Music Center of Houstonwas born out of the Black Church under the pastorship of Dr. William A. Lawson pastor emeritus, and founder of Wheeler Ave. Baptist Church. Inspired by music director Mr. Clyde O. Jackson and founded by Ron Scales and Patricia Johnson in 1979.The organization produces and performs in all genres of African American music including; Classical, Rhythm & Blues, Gospel, Jazz, Big Band and Musical Theater.

This in-person event will highlight the diverse talents and unique sounds that have emerged from this vibrant community. Don't miss out on this opportunity to honor and recognize the individuals who have made a lasting impact on the music scene in Houston. Get ready for a night filled with music, art, and celebration! Valet Parking will be available!

Official Opening Reception of the Legacy Project Art Exhibit - Black Stereo - Honoring Third Ward Musical Contributors.  The Community Music Center of Houston and the Community Artist Collective in conjunction with the Hogan Brown Art Gallery, open our Black Month salute to musical contributors at the Hogan Brown Art Gallery.  Tierney Malone with present his artwork showcasing famous and not so famous but very talented musicians, singers, philanthropists, entrepreneurs, etc. who were born, lived, or made significant contributions to Houston's Third Ward Music Scene. Although we will recognize many Third Ward Contributors, we will focus on a few Legacy Honorees - Elfrida Brown, Stephanie Blue, Andre Pleasant, Chris Knight, Sam Jackson, and Tina Knowles. (If their schedules allow, they or their representative will be honored in person. especially in the following Eldorado Ballroom Concert at 6:00 pm). Light refreshments will be available.

We invite you to come enjoy the musical celebration of Legacy Project 2024: "Black Stereo - Recognizing and Honoring Houston's Third Ward Musical Contributors" at the historic Eldorado Ballroom. We will have musical selections honoring various Third Ward Musical Contributors, including our Legacy Project 2024 Honorees.  The honorees are Elfrida Brown, Stephanie Blue, Andre Pleasant, Chris Knight, Sam Jackson, and Tina Knowles.  Schedule permitting, either they or their representative will be present at the concert. So, we look forward to you sharing in the joy a variety of music including jazz, R&B, gospel, classical, etc. and being reminded of the musical legacy of Houston's Third Ward performed by various artists including the Band "Storm".  Light refreshments will be available.  Look forward to seeing you there.  The event is free, but we do request you give an optional love offering either at the event or at https://cmchouston.org/donate/.
