Anthony Gallery is thrilled to announce Andrew Park's solo presentation,The Places We Built, alongside its latest group exhibition, Looks Can Be Deceiving. A joint opening is slated for Thursday, May 23rd at 5 p.m. at 1360 W. Lake Street, Chicago, IL 60607. This collection of works will be on display until June 22nd, 2024.Andrew Park's The Places We Built, displayed in Gallery Room One, draws inspiration from 19th-century American Realist painters like Edward Hopper, George Bellows, and Grant Wood, reimagining their artistic aims through the lens of the contemporary poor image. This series reflects Park's Korean-American upbringing amidst a period of rapid technological advancement, presenting a visual diary cataloging a life lived in limbo.In Gallery Room Two, the seven-artist group show Looks Can Be Deceiving considers nostalgia as a symptom of hyperreality, where paintings exist as idealized simulations that blur the lines between the real and the remembered. Subjects like old movie stills, childhood toys, and retro brand revivals become poignant examples of how sentimental memory is manufactured to sell idealized representations of the past.These exhibitions will be open to the public from May 23rd through June 22nd, 2024, and admission is free.
