Political Prom

Breathing While Black and Trans Extravaganza is a Protest, Rally, Health Fair and Fashion Show all in one.  Black TGNCNB+ folks will be showcasing powerful and impactful messages and images through fashion, hair, makeup, and body art designs, with youth speaking in between to expand on the messages portrayed by the models. The event sold out 100 tickets for community, 3 youth speakers and 15 black TGNC Models. The models and speakers expressed what is happening, but the reasons why it is happening: transphobia, sexism, racism and anti-Blackness, poverty and other forms of oppression. We feel this event is an impactful way to really get attention to the issue of gender justice and the injustice that is happening to us. Florida is a place where a lot of injustice and oppression happens every day, and people, including elected officials, are numb to it.With current legislation and all the ANTI-TGNC back lash this year we plan to make the event very informative to help educate those attending through a lens of Gender Justice and Creative Arts.  This year we plan to host the event on Saturday, November 18th in Miami, at the Miami Freedom Lab. We are creating a space where black TGNC voices are at the forefront.

It is with great pleasure and honor to welcome you to The McKenzie Project's 1st annual Political Prom taking place Saturday, June 28th 2024, at 7pm to 11PM, at the Scott Galvin Center, 1600 NE 126 ST, North Miami, FL 33181 Join us for a night dedicated to the TLGBQ+ community, where we will provide the ultimate prom experience with a twist of political engagement and awareness. This event is a fundraiser to generate income for our HOTS program (House of The South) which is a housing program to support black and brown individuals of TGNCNB+ experience in South Florida.Activities and highlights of the evening include:- On-site free voter registration- A powerful PSA commercial emphasizing the importance of voting- Exciting drag entertainment- A vogue and best-dressed battle involving the South Florida ballroom community- A stunning banner drop- Delicious food and drinks- Mini hair show presentation to educate the community about current state legislation- On site printing of My Vote Matters “Merchandise” Don't miss this opportunity to have fun, express yourself, and make a difference in our TLGBQ+ community.
