</h3><p></p><p>The <strong>Law Scholar in Residence</strong> is a person in the legal community that has provided their expertise in all matters relating to law.  They are a recognized leader and devotes their time and practice to their areas of focus and community engagement.
</p><p><strong>Katayun Jaffari Bio:
</strong></p><p>Katayun I. Jaffari is a partner in the Business and Finance Department at Ballard Spahr.  Recognized as a leader in the fields of corporate governance and securities, Ms. Jaffari devotes her practice to the handling of complex securities transactions for businesses in a variety of industries, including biotechnology, energy, and technology. Advising clients in deals that have reached the multibillion-dollar range, Ms. Jaffari has broad experience in business finance, including public offerings. Her practice also includes business counseling, capital raising, and mergers and acquisitions.  She counsels clients in securities law compliance, as well as internal investigations and exchange listing matters.  Ms. Jaffari has been recognized as a Distinguished Advocate by the Support Center for Child Advocates, a nonprofit organization that provides legal aid and social service advocacy for Philadelphia&#x27;s abused and neglected children. </p><p>Ms. Jaffari has also been named a “Woman of Distinction” by the Philadelphia Business Journal, a Pennsylvania &quot;Super Lawyer&quot; for securities and corporate finance, a go-to attorney for business legal advice by SmartCEO’s Legal Elite, one of Philadelphia&#x27;s &quot;40 Under 40&quot; by Philadelphia Business Journal, and one of Pennsylvania&#x27;s &quot;Lawyers on the Fast Track&quot; by American Lawyer Media.  Her work with the Philadelphia Bar Association Business Law Section has been honored with the Committee of the Year and Chair of the Year awards.  Ms. Jaffari also is the recipient of the Adjunct Teaching Award for Excellence in the Classroom, Legal Studies, from the Fox School of Business and Management at Temple University and the recipient of the First Judicial District&#x27;s Roll of Honor, First Judicial District&#x27;s Pro Bono Committee. She has served on countless national and local Boards of Directors for a variety of nonprofits focused on making a difference in the world. She has served as Chair of the Board of Governors of the Philadelphia Bar Association as well as President of the Support Center for Child Advocates. She currently serves as Vice-Chair of the School Mindfulness Project. </p><p>Ms. Jaffari is a graduate of George Washington University Law School (J.D. 1995), where she was Managing Editor of the George Washington Journal of International Law and Economics, a Dean’s Fellow and Instructor of Legal Research and Writing, and a Legal Fellow for the Mediation Clinic and Immigration Clinic. She also holds degrees from Temple University as a graduate of the Fox School of Business (M.B.A., with honors, 1992; B.B.A., summa cum laude, 1991).  Ms. Jaffari is a proud graduate of the Philadelphia public school system.</p><p>
