Zarzuela in Cambridge - A Hispanic Lyric Music Celebration

At Boston Opera & Zarzuela, a non-profit organization for the Performing Arts, we strive to enrich the cultural landscape within our community through performance, research, and education of the vast lyric repertoire, including Opera, Zarzuela, and Oratorio.We inspire audiences of all ages through our performances and at the same time we educate the audience in the history and background of our beloved Performing Arts, thus contributing to the preservation and development of our musical heritage.It is also an important part of our mission to provide singers of all ages and diverse backgrounds with the opportunity of developing and growing their artistic skills. From the young to the seasoned artist, everyone has an opportunity to audition and volunteer at Boston Opera & Zarzuela.We are committed to counting on a multicultural and multiracial team, where individuals with diverse life experiences, gender orientations, and backgrounds are represented equally, thus improving and developing the interpretation of our music heritage, its style, and social impact.We provide equal opportunities and fair treatment for all, regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, religion, age, or disability status. Boston Opera & Zarzuela

This classical lyric concert features Zarzuela, a genre born in Spain and spread to the Americas similar to Opera, Operetta, and Singspiel.

Longy School of Music of Bard College

This classical concert features solos and ensembles of the most well-known Zarzuelas of all time.Zarzuela is a traditional Spanish musical genre that originated in the 17th century and has since evolved into a distinctive lyric form combining operatic, theatrical, and musical elements, featuring a mix of sung and spoken parts.The genre found its way to the Americas during the colonial period and subsequently experienced a notable expansion and adaptation in the New World. As Spanish culture took root in Latin America, the genre merged with indigenous musical traditions, creating a unique fusion that reflected the cultural diversity of the region.Featuring international singers Herman Díaz, Mónica López, Harry Otero, Lucia Panizza, David Rivera Bozón, and Lina Sarmiento; and Dr. Libor Dudas on the piano.As a Hispanic lead nonprofit organization, it is part of Boston Opera &amp; Zarzuela's mission to share our musical heritage in Boston.This concert is in partnership with Longy School of Music of Bard College.Boston Opera &amp; Zarzuela, a non-profit organization for the Performing Arts, strives to enrich the cultural landscape within its community through performance, research, and education of the vast lyric repertoire, including Opera, Zarzuela, and Oratorio.
